UI/UX

Moving forward, I plan to integrate my graphic design skills with my technical skills. Please look over my previous UI/UX design projects.

Dog Walking App

Dog Walking App

Process

  • In the summer of 2024, I set out to find new trails around my hometown of Bozeman, Montana. While I have lived here my entire life, I found myself returning to the same two trails ad nauseum. The idea was to find a new trail every weekend to hike. With a new puppy in tow, I started researching areas, and I found... a shocking lack of information on puppy or dog friendly areas. There are many notable trail-finding apps on the market, but there are few that allow the user to quickly and easily find information on the dog-friendliness of their trails.

The purpose of this app will be to provide easy to access dog safety information on local trails. Furthermore, dog parents will be able to cultivate a social sphere with other locals with similarly tempered dogs.

  • To research the community need and wants, I collected an interview pool of 5 people local to Bozeman, and asked them about their dog walking experiences. These people varied in age from 21-60, and represented many different dog breeds.

Through this process I recieved a lot of feedback, and decided that this app should be promarily focused on being a reliable source of safety and amenity information for dog owners.

  • My process for production was to begin with a mind map and sketches for the layout of this program. Within these sketches I decided on the section placements, logo ideas, and color scheme.

Another aspect of UI/UX design I have been focusing on is within game design. I have been learning to use Unity, and have been working my way up through more and more complex games.

To the left you will find videos for 3 of my game projects. Each of these use a variety of controls and enlist very different UX elements.

At the top, I have a recreation of the game flappy bird. Here you can see 2D graphics, and animation - along with an incredibly simplistic user portal. The cognitive load for the user is very low for this game. Simply tap to make the bird float!

In the middle, you will see roll-a-ball. Another simplistic recreation of an existing game. The user move the ball to collect the items. Once again the score is updated consistently as the user plays, and there are concrete win and loss screens to exit the user from the game.

At the bottom there is a brief introduction to an open-world game. There is no point to this game other than to explore. Unfortunately, the cognitive load is far greater for this, as it is not an existing game, but the controls are a simple point-and-click.
